HELLAS IS BACK IN THE GREAT PLAINS FOR EIGHT MATRIX® HELIX FIELDS IN LAWRENCE, KANSAS

Lawrence, KS (July 6, 2018) – The Lawrence, Kansas USD 497 selected Hellas Construction to install football, soccer, baseball, and softball fields at each of its two high schools, Lawrence and Free State. Work has already begun on five of the eight new synthetic turf fields.

Executive Director of Facilities Operations Tony Barron said, “We entertained four serious proposals from four different companies. Hellas was the best fit for us. We liked the quality of their product and the fact that they install it themselves.”

All the fields will have Matrix® Turf with Helix Technology. The football and soccer fields will also have a Cushdrain® pad. The Matrix Helix turf is the same turf used by the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and Miami Dolphins.

Barron said, “Having the best product doesn’t matter if it’s not installed correctly. So, we wanted to work with a company we could build a trusting relationship with that would stand behind their product and installation. Hellas has the resources we need to get our fields done in a timely manner.”

The USD 497 is the seventh largest school district in the state of Kansas, serving over 11,500 students.

“We appreciate all the different options for turf and infill that Hellas offered. Because safety of our athletes is a priority, we also selected the Cushdrain pad.”

The Cushdrain pad is an elastic layer that is under the turf. It helps protect athletes from injury and assists in preventing concussions. The paved-in-place Cushdrain pad ensures planarity of the surface, allows for rapid drainage, and lasts three to four life cycles of turf.

“We have enjoyed working with Hellas so far,” Barron said. “The whole process is going very well.”
