Proposed rendering of the new Intramural Sports field at Colorado State University-Pueblo to be installed by Hellas Construction.
Austin, TX (May 12, 2017) –
The Student Facilities Committee at Colorado State University-Pueblo is once again supporting their intramural recreation programs and activities by selecting Hellas Construction to replace their 11-year-old synthetic turf field.
In 2005, student committee members voted to use their student facilities fees to build a field just for intramurals that could be shared with the community, changing to synthetic turf years later due to the high use of the fields.
“The fields lasted 11 years, but now have blades breaking off and the infill is now visible,” said CSU-Pueblo Project Manager Deborah Proctor. “It was time to replace it.”
The field is located next to the residence halls and has a full schedule of activities. Students stay active playing in intramural activities such as flag football, soccer, and lacrosse and community leagues and groups use it as well. She said safety was a concern and that it was hard to run on the field now.
“We were happy to see Hellas was involved in the bidding process,” said Proctor. “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to select the company that built the Dallas Cowboys fields,” she said.
The field will be installed with the same turf the Cowboys have, Matrix® Turf with
Helix technology and sport a customized ThunderWolves logo. Only top grade resins are used by Hellas to manufacture its durable fibers that are used to make its Matrix turf, considered to be the most resilient, stable, and durable turf on the market. The
Matrix Turf
with Helix technology consists of twisted fibers of two different blade sizes and colors with enhanced playability that bounces back quickly after use and prevents “splash out” of the
infill
material. The Matrix product’s quality, performance, and longevity are unparalleled in the industry.
“Hellas came very highly recommended,” said Proctor. She said students and officials are excited to see the project completed. “It will be a great legacy for the students to leave for the next generation of students,” said Proctor.
“It’s been a long process,” said Hellas Business Development Manager Michelle Kuhns. “We are thrilled to get the opportunity to work with CSU-Pueblo on such a great project.”
About 4500 students attend CSU-Pueblo. Athletics is a big part of the university with more than 500 of its students competing on 22 men's and women's sports at the NCAA Division II level through the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSU-Pueblo boasts a five–time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and NCAA 2014 Division II National Champion Football team, which catapulted from start up to national champion in just seven years.
