About
AUSTIN, TX (April, 27) —
Construction began in February for Garland ISD multi-field development, including a major face-lift of the Homer B. Johnson stadium, allowing for playoff games and major events serving the entire school district. Hellas is working simultaneously on the stadium field and the 6 other natural grass fields that are all transitioning to synthetic turf, which requires major construction and drainage work.
Hellas is in the midst of the project “and it is going great,” said Garland ISD Director of Athletics, Cliff Odenwald, “everything is on-time despite a lot of rain,” said Odenwald. All fields will be completed before football season starts in August.
Homer B. Johnson Stadium is getting a new drainage system and a Cushdrain® pad under the new Matrix® Synthetic Turf, which will greatly improve the fields’ playability, planarity and G-Max (shock absorption) overtime. This will be a great venue that will increase traffic and revenue for the district. The Stadium Construction, Lakeview High School, and North Garland High School started in February. The construction for Naaman, Sachse, Rowlett and South Garland High School’s started last week with all 7 projects being worked simultaneously.
