Giddings ISD Selects Proven Matrix® Turf for Stadium Field

AUSTIN, TX (May 15, 2011) - Hellas Construction, Inc. of Austin, TX was awarded the $1,349,100 million Giddings ISD Stadium renovation project Wednesday after winning by a unanimous vote. Excavation and site work will start immediately. Giddings ISD chose the Matrix synthetic turf product after careful consideration and several site visits. Hellas’ Sport Tracks™ 300 running track surface will also be installed as well as slot drains and goal posts.

Assistant Superintendent, Jeff Dock, couldn’t be happier with the decision and is excited for the students to compete on a world-class surface. “We chose Hellas because they will be our only contact throughout the installation process. The one-stop-shop services they offer prevent us from having to rely on multiple contacts to get the job done. We’ve heard nothing but great things from schools across the state who were happy with the job Hellas did and highly recommended we go with them,” Dock said.

Since 2007 Hellas has installed the Matrix® product in nearly 200 stadiums across Texas and in 2009 alone, over 100 UIL playoff games were played on Hellas turf. Matrix turf is also the product installed at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, home of the 2011 Super Bowl.

“We visited several Matrix fields and every field we stepped on looked like freshly mowed grass,” said Head football coach for Giddings, Derrick Fitzhenry. “Last year we had a chance to play on Hellas’ Matrix turf in the playoffs and our kids never slipped, we’ve had problems on other turf fields with traction but not on the Matrix turf, it’s the best I’ve seen,” Fitzhenry said.

Hellas will be working closely with Gaeke Construction, the Construction Manager at Risk, as well as the SHW Group who are the architects for the project.
