Austin, TX (June 8, 2015) —
Existing Hellas customer Gregory-Portland ISD follows neighboring Flour Bluff ISD’s lead by choosing Geo Plus, an organic infill that reduces surface temperatures by at least 40 degrees, for their new Matrix® Turf System with Cushdrain® pad. The Design/build project broke ground May 28th with completion scheduled in August.
Ray Akins Wildcat Stadium, named for legendary Coach Ray Akins who made Gregory-Portland Football a powerhouse in South Texas, will convert their natural grass to Matrix® Turf by building a foundation with drainage system, paving in the Cushdrain® pad for increased safety and G-Max, then installing the turf with the eco-friendly Geo Plus infill that has outstanding biomechanics and foot stability. When properly watered, this turf system has been said to be similar, if not better, than natural grass by allowing athletes to change direction without sliding which is common with other infill systems. These benefits provide athletes with enhanced playability and potentially long-term reduction in lower leg injuries.
“Hellas is excited that Gregory-Portland will be getting the best products in the industry for their facility,” says Reed J. Seaton, President and CEO of Hellas Construction. “We believe Geo Plus will continue gaining traction as more athletes get firsthand experience with the benefits and playability of this product,” he says.
