AUSTIN, TX (May 27, 2011) - Texas Tech is the second Big XII School to select Hellas Construction of Austin as its synthetic turf supplier. Hellas will start removing the old practice field at the Texas Tech Football Training Facility immediately and install the new Matrix® Turf by August 15. The full-sized, 83,000 square-foot synthetic field will replace the current natural grass surface. Hellas turf is no stranger to the Big XII, last week Hellas broke ground on Baylor University’s Floyd Casey Stadium and each year the Big XII Championship is played on Matrix turf in Cowboys Stadium, home of Super Bowl XLV.
The capability to build and install turf projects with Hellas employees and equipment and remain the only in-house manufacturer of synthetic turf systems gives Hellas the advantage. Chuck Bailey, VP of Business Development for Hellas says, “We worked closely with Tech’s athletic department and because of the complexity and timing of the project they went with us. Our single source expertise and abilities to take on a project from the ground up is what made us so attractive to them. Tech chose value over price and that says something about our company and product.”
Hellas’ synthetic turf systems are covered by a third party insurance policy.Efficiency, customer service and superior synthetic Matrix surfaces have landed Hellas Construction other high profile projects such as the Three-Field Conversion Turf System at Cowboys Stadium. Other clients include the Alamodome in San Antonio, J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome at Northern Arizona University, The Kibbie Dome at The University of Idaho, Spec Towns Track at The University of Georgia and numerous stadiums across the nation.
Hellas has installed the Matrix® product in nearly 250 stadiums across the country and in 2009 alone, over 100 UIL playoff games were played on Matrix turf. “It’s simple, we build sustainable projects with the best turf in the industry - a winning combination,” said Bailey.
